Aberfoyle Lodge | Honde Valley, Zimbabwe

March 2019

Just before we left Zimbabwe, my husband and I were treated to one last trip to remember before bidding farewell to the country. Anyone who is yet to visit Aberfoyle Lodge in the Honde Valley is missing out on this piece of paradise.

A popular holiday destination with Zim locals, Aberfoyle Lodge is situated five hours from Harare in the picturesque rolling hills of the Honde Valley. Different from the nearby town of Nyanga, the climate is warm and humid most of the year, creating a tropical haven of lush greens and gushing waterfalls.

The lodge itself is elegant and sophisticated, with all the charm of a historical tea plantation, brought into the 21st century with modern decor and fittings. Tastefully filled with botanical artworks and pretty fabrics, it’s easy to fall asleep on plush sheets surrounded by the extraordinary views of the valley.

This wonderful spot is a discovery we wish we’d made sooner as our days there were too short, even despite staying an extra night due to car troubles. It would be easy to stay for weeks with so much on offer – hiking, water sports, ziplining, golfing, biking, fishing, tours of the tea plantation, just to name a few.

After a fun day out exploring, our afternoons were well spent lounging by the pool with a good book, or sitting on the pretty verandahs with an icy drink from the fully stocked bar. With a shower and freshen up, the restaurant awaited with a sampling of the delicious menu created by the talented chefs from fresh ingredients picked straight from the gardens.

What a beautiful way to spend our last few days in Zimbawe. This is a haven that we will certainly return to for many a visit and recommend that everyone else does too.
